Drain The EPA Swamp-Part 5—Get Rid Of Federal Funding Bias In Climate Research.

The Trump administration has formed a team charged with making recommendations for changes to the EPA. This action is needed because gone are the days when the EPA followed the legislation written by Congress.  Good things were accomplished by the EPA.  But now the EPA has over stepped it authority. The EPA task is to administer the law, not make it. For example, it has developed criteria to justify their own efforts, often invites “friendly lawsuits to expand their activities, and uses “secret science” to justify their regulations:

The following are some of the areas that the team need to address, in my opinion:

  • Social Cost of Carbon
  • Secret Science
  • Peer Reviewed Studies
  • Friendly Law Suits
  • The Endangerment Finding
  • Research Grants
  • Last Minute Regulations

Federal Funding Bias

Postings discussing  the bias in allocation of grants for scientific studies are numerous.  The following comes from Dr Roy Spencer’s “Science under President Trump: End the Biases in Government-Funded  Research”  opens up with the following:

Government funds science to support pre-determined policy outcomes

So, you thought government-funded science is objective?

Oh, that’s adorable.

Since politicians are ultimately in charge of deciding how much money agencies receive to dole out to the research community, it is inevitable that politics and desired outcomes influence the science the public pays for.

Using climate as an example, around thirty years ago various agencies started issuing requests for proposals (RFPs) for scientists to research the ways in which humans are affecting climate. Climate research up until that time was mostly looking into natural climate fluctuations, since the ocean-atmosphere is a coupled nonlinear dynamical system, capable of producing climate change without any external forcing whatsoever.

And that has not stopped.  The IPCC reports asks for studies that support the assumption that warming is human caused.

More from Dr Spencer:

The National Academies, which are supposed to provide independent advice to the nation on new directions in science, were change. (See how that works?)

Research RFPs were worded in such a way that researchers could blame virtually any change they saw on humans, not Mother Nature. And as I like to say, if you offer scientists billions of dollars to find something… they will do their best to find it. As a result, every change researchers saw in nature was suddenly mankind’s fault.asked by the government to tell the government to study human causes of climate change.

(See how that works?)

Research RFPs were worded in such a way that researchers could blame virtually any change they saw on humans, not Mother Nature. And as I like to say, if you offer scientists billions of dollars to find something… they will do their best to find it. As a result, every change researchers saw in nature was suddenly mankind’s fault.

And if you have any doubt about this, lets look at the type of work has been studied and paid for by the Feds.  From a brilliant English mathematician ,  John Brignell who had been collecting the studies outcomes—what did these studies prove?    Well, virtually everything, many are completely contrary to others with the exception– they all found that man caused the global warming and thus the  problem .

Look at Dr Brignell’s list and note that the work to keep this list up is very demanding.  So he has quit doing this since Sept 2015.

A complete list of things caused by global warming

Footnote (September 2015) Why the list stopped growing.

The time it takes to process a new entry increases approximately with the square of the list length, after checking for duplications, spoofs etc. Starting it was based on the naïve assumption that the rate of appearances would decline as opposing evidence accumulated, but the reverse happened. That’s the difference between science and religion. It was taking over my life, which I did not want to end as a garbage collector. There have since been hundreds more claims of an increasingly ludicrous nature

See all you need to do is “prove” something bad that global warming is doing.  The mainstream media will put it out for the masses.  That keeps your grant money coming.

The above shows how absurd this has become,  but in fact it is serious.  Give these people grants to prove that the change is “natural” and the hokey 97% of all scientists might just make  catastrophic man-made global warming disappear.

Dr Spencer’s full post is worth reading and you can do so by clicking here.

Dr Judith Curry recently opined on this topic.  It is worth a read too!! “Is Federal funding biasing Climate Research?”

Trump needs to get rid of the bias.  The warmers  can not be the only ones that receive Federal funding.

5 responses to “Drain The EPA Swamp-Part 5—Get Rid Of Federal Funding Bias In Climate Research.

  1. defund 70% of your budget now so the tax payer gets relief

  2. Thank you for this nice informative post.

  3. Your entire blog gives me the idea that particulate matter is not really a problem pollutant, and that co2 is not either; and that we can go on burning fossil fuels until there are none left in the ground to burn.

When government funded science is finally set “straight” what will it show?
Everything is ok. Water is pure, air is clean?

When regulations are eliminated, can I burn anything i want, including pvc pipe, garbage, fossil fuels, manure, ANYTHING, and it really will not be harmful so, let the muscle cars roar, let the national parks get drilled. Let the coal burn baby burn. It won’t hurt anyone. If my car burns oil, its cool to see the cloud of blue smoke behind it. That stuff won’t hurt anyone, particularly those who have asthma. Climate change is a hoax; and its actually caused by solar activity. So is it a hoax or not? Its natural? Does that mean it does not exist?

I don’t know any skeptic that does not believe in climate change. Every 100,000 years or so, the Earth experiences roughly 80,000 years of a very cold climate and about 20,000 years of warm climate called the interglacial period. As you can tell the geological scientist mean that the warm period is squeezed in between glacial periods. This cycle has been going on for about a million years. The question is not, does the climate change, but rather what causes it to do so. Surely you don’t think that this natural cycle has been caused by man burning fossil fuels.
Most skeptics believe the primary cause of the change is natural and most think that man’s activities may play a minor role in the recent climate change. What we believe in is actual measurable data. What we don’t believe in is climate models that have proved time and time again to fail to be even close to actual measurements. For eighteen years or so, there was no statistically significant rise in global temperatures. You may think that the recent temperature spike due to a natural event, El Nino, has caused the “pause” to be broken. I ask you to look at the predicted temperatures versus the current temperature and you will still see that it is way below what is predicted by the computer models. And here is a kicker, the atmospheric CO2 levels used in these selected mean computer temperature predictions are typically lower than the actual measured CO2 level. Wow. That should make the spread between actual and computer predicted temperatures even bigger.

No, I don’t want dirty water or air. You propose so many strawmen that you could populate a remake of the Wizard of Oz. I support the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts. Have done so as an engineer and manager of design and installation of environmental facilities throughout my industrial career. But how is it that one could support regulations that are predicated SECRET SCIENCE? The EPA is out of control. Congress makes the laws. The EPA cannot be allowed to do that.
